Oh HO!

They were in classroom 314. He was Pi Clock. I see what you did there.

Great song, good animation.

Don't Worry Bro

Haters gonna hate. These people just don't understand the humor in this. I like it.

Wasn't Sure How To Look It

It is a very impressive flash movie. But that's all it was. A flash movie. And for a flash movie, it is one of the best on NG. However, when I look at it as an actual MOVIE movie, a lot of things come to light.

To start with, it didn't seem like the art style was clearly solidified. It was either supposed to be a japanese anime or an atmospheric gothic sort of piece (compare the art style of the inventor and Lucy). I know these two genres can mix, but they didn't in this example. I personally would have preferred a dark, brooding style for the entire movie. The only part that left me impressed was the shot of the professor sitting in his chair, everything was dark and there was a matte sort of effect. A darker style would have made it A) much more intense, and thus more engaging and B) more memorable as a whole.

Secondly, the characters I found were stiff and followed common archetypes, i.e. the evil/crazy/mean intellectual that has a change of heart, the innocent girl, the cocky boy, etc. The only way to make these archetypes/stereotypes (whichever you'd rather call them) work is to have something else about the movie really stand out against other movies (Avatar is a great example of this. Cliché plot, cliché characters, but such an amazing movie we don't care about that).

As for sound, the quality was pretty good even taking into account the large amounts of compression this had to go through. My only complaint is the voice acting and script. I found it bland and uninspired. This goes back to the tone/genre thing above. It wasn't solidified on a single tone at any point. If you pointed out a single point in the movie and asked me what the tone then is, I would have a hard time telling you. Clear-cut and unified is what makes a script work.

The animation itself was good. I have no complaints. The fight scene was good. But I'll point out that art style thing again. Were you going for an anime look, dark/brooding feel, etc?

In any form of visual media (2D, 3D, photography, cinema, sculpture, etc) the artist needs to make sure that every element compliments each other. It falls apart when it isn't fitting together just right. Solidify the style, tone, plot elements, etc and then you will be on track to bumping this as close to perfection as possible.

tl;dr: for what it is it's excellent. But from a critical standpoint, it is just a long flash movie that's a bit more polished than the others.

Addicting

Great game, smooth interface, etc etc. Good time waster and very entertaining.

Unfortunately, it seems to crash for me. I think it has something to do with too many objects on-screen at once. I say this because it only crashes when I'm at the last store and I am rolling in money and people are swarming the store.

Simply put,

this is the best game ever.

The best art game on NG

Damn, there is just too much I have to say about this game. I'll try to keep it neat and organized.

Presentation/Sound: Definitely loving the (almost) one-bit art style. The simplicity of the player and the ground he walked on contrasted with the strange monoliths scattered around in a captivating way. I would use this game as an example if anyone ever asked me when simple visuals are better than high-end ones. As for sound, I'll just say it gets the job done. I would have liked a bit more variety, but it was good nonetheless.

Gameplay: I suppose it takes a certain kind of temperament to enjoy this game. As a person that enjoys exploration games (I've sunken numerous hours into games such as Fallout 3 and Mass Effect) I can say that I loved it. I've noticed a large amount of negative reviews that are largely centered around the fact that it is so difficult to explore the area. Personally, I think that logic is unfounded. Where's the challenge in having a map? If this 'Looming' place is supposed to be some barren void, why would you expect it to be easy? In fear of going on too long, I'll just cut it short: The majority of these negative reviews aren't worth seriously considering. I wouldn't change this at all.

Story: I suppose this is what it all boils down to; does it have a good story? In that regard, I'd say you have succeeded magnificently. In this game there is a world that I found I was actually very interested in. The story (or rather, the backstory) was compelling enough that I found myself sweeping the map TWICE to find the last artifact I was missing so i could get the last ending.

Closing Comments: One thing that sticks out in my mind was the inclusion of your developer notes once you unlocked everything. Reading that was probably one of the things that stopped me from crying out "pretentious art bullshit" like everyone else seems to be doing. In giving us your thought process behind this, it becomes that more viable as true 'art'.

I'm finished.

I'd have to agree with meatwad

Kickass song.
But yes, if you could get your singer to sing with a bit more gravel and roughness in his voice it would suit the song perfectly.

I almost rated this higher.

It had a good intro. Steadily adding layers of sound to make build up the intensity. But then I heard the vocals come in and i kind of pooped a little. In all honesty, the singing was pretty weak compared to the fairly decent guitar riffs and bass lines. From what I discerned from the lyrics, it was just some stereotypical "meh im being oppressed lets be free and have fun and be in love wahhhahhahhhhhhhh...". Seriously. Other wise it was pretty decent. Either make the song purely instrumental or completely rework the vocal part.

LostCauseMusic responds:

I agree the lyrics tell a fairly cliche story and we will try and improve the singing, thanks for reviewing.
