Oh HO!

They were in classroom 314. He was Pi Clock. I see what you did there.

Great song, good animation.

Don't Worry Bro

Haters gonna hate. These people just don't understand the humor in this. I like it.

Wasn't Sure How To Look It

It is a very impressive flash movie. But that's all it was. A flash movie. And for a flash movie, it is one of the best on NG. However, when I look at it as an actual MOVIE movie, a lot of things come to light.

To start with, it didn't seem like the art style was clearly solidified. It was either supposed to be a japanese anime or an atmospheric gothic sort of piece (compare the art style of the inventor and Lucy). I know these two genres can mix, but they didn't in this example. I personally would have preferred a dark, brooding style for the entire movie. The only part that left me impressed was the shot of the professor sitting in his chair, everything was dark and there was a matte sort of effect. A darker style would have made it A) much more intense, and thus more engaging and B) more memorable as a whole.

Secondly, the characters I found were stiff and followed common archetypes, i.e. the evil/crazy/mean intellectual that has a change of heart, the innocent girl, the cocky boy, etc. The only way to make these archetypes/stereotypes (whichever you'd rather call them) work is to have something else about the movie really stand out against other movies (Avatar is a great example of this. Cliché plot, cliché characters, but such an amazing movie we don't care about that).

As for sound, the quality was pretty good even taking into account the large amounts of compression this had to go through. My only complaint is the voice acting and script. I found it bland and uninspired. This goes back to the tone/genre thing above. It wasn't solidified on a single tone at any point. If you pointed out a single point in the movie and asked me what the tone then is, I would have a hard time telling you. Clear-cut and unified is what makes a script work.

The animation itself was good. I have no complaints. The fight scene was good. But I'll point out that art style thing again. Were you going for an anime look, dark/brooding feel, etc?

In any form of visual media (2D, 3D, photography, cinema, sculpture, etc) the artist needs to make sure that every element compliments each other. It falls apart when it isn't fitting together just right. Solidify the style, tone, plot elements, etc and then you will be on track to bumping this as close to perfection as possible.

tl;dr: for what it is it's excellent. But from a critical standpoint, it is just a long flash movie that's a bit more polished than the others.

My favorite one

I'm really not sure why people seem to think this is the worst. For me, it has the strongest emotional attachment to it. It's actually kind of hard to feel sympathetic for Jerry until you see this episode. It had a good plot, good animation, good music and a great way to end this series.

atleast its not another awesome movie

Even though it might as well be. Maybe you just named it differently so that all of the 9-year-olds wouldn't instantly hop onto this.

Anyways, it's good but it lacks strong jokes. Somewhat funny, worth a look, but that's all.

Cool story bro

There wasn't really anything to really scratch at. It takes too long to start getting into the story and feeling engaged. I would also recommend drawing your own title rather than using a default font. It will really add to the uniqueness, if that's the right word. I would also try to use less dialogue in the beginning, as it sounds a tad awkward with him just talking to himself. Try using minimal dialoge, resorting mostly to grunts and mumbles, and perhaps a couple "huh?"s. Just try to imagine what sounds YOU would be making if you awoke in some lab.

Some pretty good animation, and nice FEAR reference with the girl. Liked the death god guy.

DO YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY THIS IS ON FRONTPAGE?

I BET YOU DO! YEAH IM TALKING TO YOU FranksADVENTURE and Bwgmon! READ THE DESCRIPTION. CLEARLY, SOME OF THE HIGHER-UPS (Tom, Wade, etc) AGREED WITH WHAT THIS GUY WROTE IN HIS BIGASS ESSAY OF A DESCRIPTION. *CAPS LOCK OFF* ok sorry. But yeah, apparently some big boy saw what this submission represented and hopes that by putting this on the frontpage, all the 13-year-olds will go "OH LEWK BRAWL FUNNIEZ DICK 3 DIS WILL BE FUNNIEZ" and then they will read the description and realize the sins of their evil ways. Sometimes a cartoon is more about the point it gets across rather than being "LOLOLOL :D:DDD SUPER KAWAII DESU FUNNY MAN KEEPS IT UPZ XDDDDD" or aesthetically pleasing. It's the people that don't delve into what the animator is really trying to express that are making this site into what it is.

Cheers, douchebags.

A few months ago ashford pride made a movie with a foreboding title. It was called "Awesome Grounds".

Well ladies and gentlemen, that's might as well what this site should be called (at least right now), with the top row on the front page slot dedicated to an "awesome" movie and an "awesome" parody, an "awesome" t-shirt in the newgrounds store, and pretty much every "awesome" movie in the top 100, along with han's "awesome's creed".

I can't go to newgrounds with seeing something not about egoraptor or his coveted video game parody series. It makes me wonder sometimes if pursuing anything but half-assed cartoons making mildly funny observations about video games laced with profanity is even worth it. Truly, they are what bring the masses of 13-year olds to this site, and thus increases traffic and competition in the internet world. But you have to ask yourself, with this sort of two-bit audience increasing in numbers, are they really interested in watching anything else?

I understand that it's a dog eat dog world in the online entertainment business, and to compete you have to pretty much put up content that a majority of internet browsers would click on. This includes either women or video games. Things they already know they want. And that's all they want. They sign up, watch more, and come back and do it again later. They're trained to know that what they want is easily accessible and is promoted all over the site.

Original content is often shuffled off to the bottom of the page, or never gets any attention to begin with. Now comes into play the whole 'they won't click on it unless there's a boob for the icon', etc etc. That's because they've been fashioned to think that way.

I'm not saying i have all the mysterious answers to the way people's minds work. But this much is true - if all people click on are breasts and video game icons, and you give them breasts and video game icons, you're not pushing the envelope.

Newgrounds is the epitome of user-generated content. We already have a massive advantage over youtube in the fact that making a cartoon involves so much more creativity than snappily editing your webcam footage. So instead of 200 cartoons coming out every minute, we have 200 cartoons coming out every day. That gives someone a better chance of breaking out and being discovered for his hard work, and a reward for a job well done.

But in the same way that viewers are trained that they don't have to go out of their way to avoid original content they would otherwise enjoy, authors are becoming more and more disenchanted with their personal creations and are turning to nerd culture icons and cheap tactics to get viewers.

I can't tell you how many animators I have spoken to that have shunned their own creations in favor of sub-pop culture parody and disjointed scripts sprinkled with toilet humor and profanity. a cartoon catering to everyone who's forgotten what cartoons are all about. And here we are shoving away everything about cartoons that was originally appealing and magical, because we're pretty much forced to.

I'm not pointing the finger at any one person here. I think it's part of the bigger picture - bigger than Newgrounds, too. But if people really care about the future of cartoons and animation, we wouldn't be seeing this kind of blatant favoritism.

People will find what they want if they want it. They don't need to be spoon fed it all.

For thirty years animators who strive to create something genuinely unique have gotten nothing but a slap in the face. It's sickening and it has to stop someday, before they all disappear.

Lastly, this post is not about me. I'm not writing this out of self-pity, bitterness or spite. I'm being honest. I care a lot about the future of animation, and what I see around me is very troubling. The industry is bad enough, but where the future lies is in the small corners of the animation world. Newgrounds is one of them. I spend a lot of time trying to encourage and teach frame-by-frame animation, and creating your own characters and scripts. That is what is important

Ladybug's are insects right?

Shouldn't they have only 6 legs?
...
oh well.
interesting enough.

well

I watched the entire ending part with Knuckles dancing.
There's nothing at the end of the song, to answer bobman80's question.

anyways.
yeeeep.

I Love Your Work

I love the grainy, somewhat traditional looking style, I love the voice acting, I love the humor, I love the darkness, I just love everything. From seeing Prostitute Mickey to this, you have not failed yet to satisfy. The -1 though is for a somewhat weak idea in this one. The whole Mario getting pissed off deal has been done before.

True, but show me one version that sounded this good. :)
